Guy without legs hired as a gym teacher

(AOL) – There are certain teachers whose influence can affect students for the rest of their lives, whose names are never forgotten. Doug Forbis hopes to become one of those — and it’s not just because he doesn’t have any legs. “When I was growing up, if you had any sort of difference in a PE class, there wasn’t a lot you could do,” Forbis told AOL News. “You could be a score keeper or watch, but it wasn’t the most productive use of your time.” “The only challenges I run into are other people’s mindsets, nothing physical or anything related to me,” he added. “People who think a person in a wheelchair shouldn’t be at the mall or shouldn’t be hanging out with their friends. It’s crazy.” But despite Forbis’ accomplishments and ambitions, don’t call him an inspiration. “I get called that a lot and it drives me crazy,” he said. “I’m doing what any 20-something college grad would do, it’s not really any different.”

I respect this guy. He has a great attitude and seems to be doing just fine without his legs. God knows I would have hung myself from a coffee table by now if I were him. But I don't get the gym teacher thing. Like, why not be a science or math teachers where you can sit behind a desk all day. Why make yourself available for the kids to laugh at you more?
I mean during dodgeball I would never come out. If I got hit I'd just grab another ball and go after whichever one of my friends on the other team got me. The teacher would literally have to come and grab me by the neck to get me off the court. How is this guy gonna handle that situation? Or when a fight breaks out during floor hockey? Or when Johnny Badass tells him he will run the mile right after he does?
This is definitely a bad choice of careers for young Doug Forbis. It seems like a good idea. Summers off, just set up some games for the kids, but in reality, kids have less respect for gym teachers than any other teacher, just no education or skill needed for that gig. And kids like me are mean. We will try to break you. We will try to make you cry. We will mock you for not having legs.
